Biography of Bob Hopkins

Bob Hopkins has been retired for 21 years since 1988 as a court reporter for the Placerville, California Superior Court. Bob had 33 years of experience as a hobbyist-cartoonist.

Bob started submitting cartoons to the National Shorthand Reporter Magazine 24 years ago in 1977. Since that time more than 200 of Bob's black and white drawings have been published as well as several articles Bob has written covering subjects of interest to court reporters.

At one time Bob drew cartoons for MENSA of Texas through the courtesy of another court reporter, and Bob says the MENSA group was a difficult audience to satisfy. Bob had cartoons in both Humor In Court books published by NCRA and helped illustrate a handbook for transcribers. His work has also appeared in local newspapers. Bob was not only a great cartoonist with his own wit but also has drawn many cartoons for captions submitted to him by others.

Bob turned is now 86 years old this year (2009) and lives at the Ikaton Assisted Living, Room 116,3421 Palmer Drive, Cameron Park, CA 95682.

  Biography of Mike Bumpus

Mike Burnpus has had cartoons published in the the National Shorthand Reporter since 1973 when his first cartoon appeared there 36 years ago.

At the 1984 NSRA Convention Mike introduced himself as one of the magazine's cartoonists, and he says people looked at him as if he'd just fallen off a turnip truck.

Mike is not only an excellent cartoon drawer, but has has one of the best knacks anywhere for thinking up the captions which he draws the cartoons for.

In typical cartoonist humor, Mike has threatened to plop a cartoon every so many pages in his transcripts since they are so boring to read. Most of the humor for Mike's cartoons comes from his actual courtroom observations.

Mike is 73 years old this year (2009) and has been retired five years as a federal court reporter from the Northern District Federal Court in Mississippi.

Mike resides at 118 Stratton Drive, Tupelo, MS 38801-8638.
